Dutko Worldwide Bolsters Homeland Security Team with Addition of Karen Yeager : 04-05-2005
WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 5, 2005 – Dutko Worldwide, one of the fastest-growing public policy firms in the nation, announced today the addition of Karen Yeager as a Vice President. Yeager, who brings years of experience on homeland security issues and a unique understanding of the Department of Homeland Security, previously served as an advisor to President Bush, Secretary Tom Ridge and Under Secretary Michael Brown.
“With the importance of homeland security to our clients and to the nation, we are building a unique team with experience at the state, congressional and executive branch levels,” said Dutko Worldwide CEO Mark Irion. “Karen’s experience, contacts and skills in the area of homeland security will bolster our team and strengthen our ability to serve clients at all levels of government.”
Irion continued, “Dutko’s homeland security team now offers an entirely unique combination of skills and experience. We have an unmatched presence at the state level, along with deep experience on Capitol Hill and the executive branch. Putting together this uniquely qualified homeland security team is another move in our strategic approach to building a firm that offers best-in-class capabilities across a wide range of services.”
Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks Yeager was asked to serve as Director of External Affairs for the newly created Office of Homeland Security at the White House. In this capacity she was responsible for building partnerships with the private sector, academic, and state and local officials and emergency responders. Yeager went on to serve in the Homeland Security Secretary’s Private Sector Office as a Business Liaison Director, where she was responsible for articulating the President's mission, purpose and goals of the new Department to the private sector. Most recently, Yeager served at the Department of Homeland Security as an advisor to Michael Brown, the Under Secretary and External Affairs Coordinator for Emergency, Preparedness and Response/FEMA.
Prior to joining the White House staff, Yeager worked on the 2001 Presidential Inaugural Committee as Senate Liaison and on the 2000 Florida Recount. She previously held positions with Senate Republican Majority Leader Trent Lott’s Political Action Committee and 2000 re-election campaign.
The addition of Karen Yeager is another step in Dutko Worldwide’s unique strategy of building the first independent public affairs firm with a national and global multi-disciplinary public policy management capability. Other recent moves include adding a new office in Miami and hiring staff with experience in the White House, Congress, local government and political campaigns. In recent years, the company has added offices and operations in every corner of the United States, giving it a true 50-state reach. In 2004, the company began a global affairs practice to help clients build public-private partnerships abroad, and opened an office in Prague that focuses on the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The firm combines this worldwide reach with best-in-class federal lobbying and strategic consulting, state-based partnership-building, global strategic consulting, research and polling, and government marketing services. More domestic and international capabilities are planned for 2005 and beyond.
