Dutko Worldwide Continues to Strengthen its State and Local Team with Addition of Former Clinton Administration Official Herb Tyson : 09-18-2006
Washington, DC. – September 18, 2006 – Dutko Worldwide, one of the nation’s fastest growing public affairs firms, today announced it has added Herb Tyson, a former Clinton Administration official and experienced state and local strategist, as a new Vice President and key member of its state and local practice.
The addition of Tyson, who comes to Dutko from the International Council of Shopping Centers, is part of the firm’s ongoing strategy of building a national, multi-disciplinary public affairs practice. Tyson is joining Dutko’s state based network, which specializes in working with senior state and local leadership and their staffs. Operating out of the Dutko Worldwide headquarters in Washington, DC, Tyson will work closely with the regional offices located in Annapolis, Boston, Denver, Las Vegas, Miami, and Tallahassee.
“We’re obviously very excited to bring Herb, and his senior experience at the state and local levels, on board,” noted Craig Pattee, President of Dutko Worldwide. “There are few mayors or county leaders who haven’t worked with him…and his reputation with governors is also outstanding,” When asked about his move, Tyson stated, “I’ve known the Dutko crew for a long time, as they have a stellar reputation and I am looking forward to being part of the team.” Pattee added, “Herb is not only joining an experienced team, but is truly bringing something special to the table.”
As a Vice President with the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Tyson was responsible for project oversight, staff management, and political contacts for the 60,000 plus member trade association for the shopping center industry on a state and local level. He also monitored all state and local regulatory activity in addition to covering government relations activities for ICSC in Canada, and public/private partnerships globally.
Prior to joining ICSC, Tyson served in the Clinton Administration as Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, where he coordinated departmental issues and activities involving the Secretary and other officials with governors, mayors and other locally elected officials. He also served in the Clinton Administration as Senior Advisor in the Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs for the United States Information Agency.
In addition to his work with the Clinton Administration, Mr. Tyson has extensive experience in the field of finance, working as an Economic Development Official in Cambridge, Massachusetts; an Associate with the Mass. Industrial Finance Agency; and positions with Merrill Lynch, WGBH TV Boston, and Shawmut Bank of Boston. Tyson’s extensive experience with state and local officials in his governmental and private sector positions, along with his background in finance, make him an important player in Dutko Worldwide’s state and local strategy.
The addition of Tyson is another step in Dutko Worldwide’s unique strategy of integrating state and local public affairs with federal and global public policy management services. Other recent moves include adding a new office in Annapolis and hiring staff with experience in the White House, Congress, local government and political campaigns. The firm combines a worldwide reach with best-in-class federal lobbying and strategic consulting, state-based partnership-building, global strategic consulting, research and polling, and government marketing services.
