Dutko Worldwide has scored a major coup in K Street’s ongoing Democratic hiring binge. The lobbying giant has signed up as a senior vice president Judy Lemons, who logged 15 years as chief of staff to now-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Talent from Pelosi’s office is in especially high demand in the lobbying industry because relatively few of her former senior staff have moved downtown. Lemons joins the firm this week and said she expects to be working on a range of issues. For the past several years, she’s served in town as a solo consultant to a handful of San Francisco-based nonprofits, including the Presidio Trust, the Golden Gate Parks Conservancy and the San Francisco Maritime Park. Lemons said she settled with Dutko for what she called its client mix, high standards and comfortable atmosphere. “I think this will broaden the horizon and allow me to continue to work on the progressive issues that defined my House career,” she said. Prior to joining Pelosi after her 1987 election, she staffed for two of Pelosi’s predecessors — the late Rep. Phil Burton (D-Calif.) and then his wife, the late Rep. Sala Burton (D-Calif.).
