Dutko Worldwide has been at the forefront of the public policy debate over the Internet since the dawn of the digital age. Our advocacy on behalf of clients has covered all aspects of Internet and information technology policy including, Internet governance, intellectual property, digital media, and e-commerce matters. We have represented clients on issues involving ICANN and the Internet naming system. We have actively participated in every significant legislative battle involving intellectual property in the digital era, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Satellite Home Viewer Act, music piracy and patent reform. Our e-commerce clients have used our team to understand, and impact state and federal policies involving spam, spyware and phishing, cybersecurity and Internet taxation.
For our client, Vontu, we mapped out a strategy to increase its visibility among its targeted customer base by actively participating in the legislative debate over identify theft legislation and database security. Company executives were invited to testify before Congress several times during congressional hearings on the subjects. As a result of these efforts, the company has exceeded its expectations for customer acquisition.
For the Domain Justice Coalition, the professionals at Dutko Worldwide mobilized domain name registrars to oppose the imminent adoption of a proposal that would have destroyed the current market for secondary domain names. This coalition marked the first time that domain name registrars had ever worked together for a common cause. The coalition successfully educated regulators and policy makers about the potential anti-competitive effects of the proposal.
