John is a Director in Dutko's Washington office, helping clients on myriad of issues. Prior to joining Dutko, John served at the White House as part of the President’s domestic policy council where he was responsible for coordinating education and labor issues including stabilizing student loans during the recent credit crisis.

John previously served as Deputy Policy Director at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In this role, he was responsible for advising the Secretary on immigration reform, pandemic influenza, and health care policy. He also worked on technology and telecom policy, including the American Competitiveness Initiative. In 2002, the Secretary of Education appointed John as the nation’s second Director of Educational Technology where he managed over $800 million in annual grants and research projects.

From 1995 to 2001, John served as Pennsylvania's first Director of Educational Technology where he led the development of several initiatives to expand online learning and improve the use of technology in education. He also coordinated the Department’s e-government initiatives including the migration of several legacy applications to web-based systems and the creation of one of the nation’s first web-based grant systems.

In addition to his experience in government, John has also worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where he managed a portfolio of national advocacy grants.

In 2009, John was named as one of 25 American Council on Germany “Young Leaders” to participate in an annual conference with German business, finance, and government professionals. He was also selected by eSchoolNews as one of the 30 most influential leaders in the education technology industry.
