Karen is a native of Gulfport, MS and a graduate from the University of Mississippi. Karen moved to Washington, DC in 1995 and served five years on the political staff of US Senator Trent Lott (R-MS). She went on to serve in the White House for President Bush in 2001. Following the September 11th attacks, she was asked to join the staff of Homeland Security Advisor Tom Ridge as Director of External Affairs. She eventually became one of the first appointees to help establish the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and served as Advisor for External Affairs to the DHS Under Secretary and Director of the Federal Emergency management Agency. She joined Dutko Worldwide in the spring of 2005 and has worked with the Mississippi delegation in Washington as well as the Barbour Administration in Jackson. In addition to in-depth experience working with President Bush, Governor Barbour and the Mississippi delegation, Karen has extensive relationships within the White House, the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and governors’ offices across the country. She currently heads the Dutko Worldwide Gulf Coast Office located in Gulfport, MS.
