You should look at your roof as the most protective element of the rest of your home. This is a big job, and as a result, deserves respect. If you put time and effort into maintaining and care for your roof, it will remain strong and protect you, your family, and your home.

Regardless of if your roof has been in place for years or if you just had a new home roof installation Denver CO, now is the time to invest in maintenance. Some tips to protect your roof through the years can be found here.

    Clean Off All Debris

When debris collects on your roof, it will hold onto water and cause deterioration. This will start to collect behind and around penetrations through the roof, such as the skylights, chimneys, and pipes. It will also settle in the valleys where the roof sections come together at an angle.

    Inspect the Flashing

Make sure the flashing is solid and damage-free. You should also ensure it has not begun to deteriorate. If necessary, reseal the flashing by removing the old caulk, scrubbing the area, and adding new sealant.

    Secure Any Loose Shingles

Wind and storms can loosen shingle tabs on your roof. If there are loose shingles, you should secure them using roof cement. If the shingles are damaged, they should be replaced.

Inspect, Secure, and Clean the Gutters

If you notice serious issues with your gutters, they should be replaced. This is especially true if they are rusty or show other signs of deterioration.

When it comes to ensuring your roof remains in place and protective of your home for the coming years, be sure to keep the tips and information above in mind. This information will help ensure your roof doesn’t have serious issues, and if issues arise, they are found and fixed in a timely manner.
