When you are in need of self storage Riverside residents should know a few things, especially if it’s their first time.

Self storage is the most popular storage option. These facilities offer a safe, secure, and affordable way to keep your items away from home. With self storage Riverside residents are responsible for delivering their items to the unit themselves. When you want to take the items out of storage, you have to pick them up. Customers are also responsible for their own documentation of their belongings. On the other side is full-service storage and these companies will pick up your belongings and deliver them to the unit. Many companies also let the customer request pick up times and can document and take photos of your belongings.

How Big of a Unit Do You Need?

The majority of facilities will have multiple sizes of units for rent. The square footage needed will be based on the number of things you have to store. The storage unit sizes can vary so check with the facility you plan to use in order to determine the different sizes that are available to you.

What to Look for in a Storage Unit?

There are different amenities you may want to consider. These include climate control, degree of accessibility, number of locks, video monitoring, in-person surveillance, pricing, sizes offered, lighting, overall safety and security of the facility, and online reviews.

Should You Get a Climate Controlled Unit?

If you are storing furniture or clothing then you want to get a climate controlled storage unit. The majority of facilities do offer this as an option. Climate control will help protect belongings from extreme temperatures, outside conditions, and humidity. These units will protect against mold and mildew. If you plan on storing any paper products, wood products, fabric, carpet, or upholstery then you want protection from mold.

    What Can You Store?

Storage units can be used for any household goods as well as specific items, such as boats, cars, motorcycles, and RVs. If you want to store large furniture items or appliances then you will need to consider the space it takes to store these items.

Should You Insure the Stored Items?

Before you store any items, it’s recommended that your items are properly insured. This can give you peace of mind and replace any items that are stolen or broken when in storage. Some facilities do provide protection for items against loss or damage free of charge. Other facilities do offer their own insurance options as well. Your belongings may already be insured with your homeowner’s policy. There are limits on items that are stored away from the home, but you should always check with an insurance agent before getting additional coverage.
