How To Beat the Texas Heat

Summer can be a lot of fun, but every Texan knows that when the temperature starts to climb, it can be incredibly uncomfortable even if you stay inside the house. There’s not much you can do to control the temperature, but you’ll need to find ways to cool off if you want to get through the summer months. Fortunately, there are a number of steps you can take to prepare for the summer and activities for you to engage in that will help you keep cool, even when it’s unbearable outside. If you’re worried about keeping cool next summer, keep reading to learn about some ways you can beat the Texas heat.

    1. Make sure your HVAC is functioning properly.

Your HVAC is the most important system in your home if you want to stay cool in the summer. Keeping your HVAC well maintained is essential if you want it in good working order all summer long. That means your filter will need to be changed every 90 days and the system itself should be inspected at least once annually. Systems over 10 years old that are exhibiting signs of disrepair may need to be replaced entirely.

If you’re in Texas and think your HVAC might be in need of a repair, AC Texas LLC can address the issue. With years of experience providing quality work and dependable products, AC Texas is the best place to go for new installation or repair services. You should never try to repair your HVAC system on your own, let an HVAC expert handle any concerns you may have.

    2. Inspect your windows and doors.

Before the season starts, you should take time to inspect the outside-facing windows and doors in your home. Look for any signs of wear and tear, especially gaps and crevices. Hot air can slip in through even the smallest cracks and crevices in your windows and doors, as can moisture and a variety of other contaminants. Make sure you have them repaired or replaced as soon as possible. If temperature control is an issue, you can also invest in blackout curtains to reduce the amount of direct sunlight indoors. You may be tempted to open your windows to let in a breeze, but that will do more harm than good.

    3. Invest in a countertop ice maker.

Anyone who likes to pack their cooler or make frozen drinks will need a steady supply of ice. Buying bags of ice from the store can get expensive, and a standard freezer often doesn’t have space to make enough ice. One solution is to consider buying a small ice maker for your home. While your freezer can take hours to make ice cubes, an ice maker can produce a batch of ice cubes in just 10 minutes. Ice makers come in a range of sizes, but for personal use, you probably don’t need to buy a large one. A smaller ice maker can still produce over 1.5 pounds of ice, which is more than enough for cocktails with all of your friends.

One of the most important home maintenance tasks before the summer is to have your HVAC inspected and serviced. It’ll be nearly impossible to stay comfortable without a working air conditioner. Even with a high-quality HVAC, it’s likely that there will still be days where it’s hard to avoid sweating. Do yourself a favor and make sure that you don’t have any gaps or cracks that are letting in hot air that you may not notice. Sometimes the best thing you can do is find an enjoyable activity that can cool you down, like making some frozen drinks and sitting by the pool. It’s a good idea to spend time looking for creative solutions to help you beat the heat when the summer months roll around.
