Being a town planner, you would have several responsibilities. The town planner has to work to the best of their abilities to meet the needs of the people, giving them a better place to live in, and preserving the historic architecture of the town at the same time.

However, another hidden responsibility of being a town planner is to avoid health hazards and ensure safety during construction, remodeling, or restructuring.

If you are a town planner, you must have a look at the points mentioned below to avoid health hazards and ensure a safe environment for all.

    Consider Environmental Damage

The town planner must have immense consideration towards the environment and climate change. As a town planner, you must critically analyze and weigh in multiple environmental impacts before approving a project.

Different environmental effects, such as air pollution, noise pollution, treatment of waste, and other effects must be considered by the town planner before approving a project. Once, a minimal effect on the environment is guaranteed, only then a project be approved.

Considering environmental damage is not enough. The town planner must lay sustainable construction methods to minimize the effect on the environment, and in turn, human health.

    Policies For Vegetation

A great way of mitigating dangers to the environment and ensuring a healthy lifestyle for individuals is to promote greenery in the town.

The town planner shall act responsibly and prioritize park and garden constructions more. Moreover, policies such as having a specific area shall be reserved for greenery in any construction project.

Having vegetation in the town is a very good way of avoiding any health hazards. Moreover, having more parks and gardens would encourage the citizens to have a healthier lifestyle, spend more time with nature, or go for a run in the park.

    Establishing Policies

Establishing policies and certain criteria is essential if a town planner wants to avoid health hazards and ensure a safe and healthy environment for all. These policies and rules are specifically targeted towards the construction projects in the town.

These policies may include equipping site visitors and workers with protective gear, ensuring asbestos removal after demolition, adopting fall protection practices, and proper waste removal are some of the policies that a town planner can make for construction projects.

Construction projects can pose a great threat to the environment or human lives. Therefore, establishing and monitoring the implementation of these rules are integral for a town planner.

    Waste Management

A lot of health hazards are caused by improper waste management. As a town planner, effective rules and regulations shall be made for waste management.

These policies shall include proper drainage and sewage systems in new construction projects, and reclamation of closed gutters and lines. For construction projects that cause improper oil disposal, on site oil reclamation shall be made necessary.

Through effective waste management policies, a lot of health hazards can be mitigated. After all, it is the responsibility of the town planner to build the town in such a way that ensures an easy and sustainable living for the citizens.
