Good dental hygiene is an imperative part of overall good health. Whether or not you have dental implants Huntington NY, there are many ways to ensure that you are keeping your teeth and gums in top condition. Here are four of them.

    1. Brush Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth twice a day is one of the easiest and most important ways to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Dentists recommend brushing for two minutes per session with a soft-bristled toothbrush. Be sure to brush your tongue as well to wash away any bacteria lurking on the surface of the tongue

    1. Remember To Floss

Many people brush their teeth diligently but forget or don’t take the time to floss their teeth. This is a mistake because not only does flossing remove food particles that the toothbrush may not reach, it promotes gum health and prevents conditions such as gingivitis. Most dentists recommend that you floss once a day.

    1. Be Mindful of Food and Drink

Some good dental hygiene practices begin even before you go to clean your teeth. Limit your intake of foods with lots of sugar and acid, as these substances can begin to break down the enamel on your teeth. Drink lots of water, which keeps your mouth healthy by stimulating the production of saliva. Crunchy raw vegetables like celery are natural teeth scrubbers, so include those foods in your diet as well.

    1. Schedule Regular Dental Checkups

Even with good dental hygiene practices, issues with teeth and gums can go unnoticed. Twice yearly visits to the dentist will ensure that plaque that is difficult to reach with brushing and flossing gets removed. X-rays performed at the dentist’s office can spot issues in your mouth lurking underneath the surface.

Follow these tips for a healthy and beautiful smile.
