5 Signs It Is Time To Replace Your Windows | Long Life

With time, your windows may not be as efficient as they used to be. The weather-stripping can get damaged, some parts may break, and the seals can fail. As much as you want to make the most of your window, there are telltale signs to look out for, to know it is time for a window replacement. Discussed below are some of the signs to look out for.

    Cold Drafts

If you pass by your window and feel a draft or a distinct chill, it is possible that the window seals are damaged and need replacing. Drafty windows are especially noticeable during winter when you can feel cold air being blown into the house. This situation puts an extra load on the HVAC system, and in the end, you have high energy bills. By replacing the windows, you ensure that the costly energy stays within your home, saving you energy bills.

    Condensation

If you notice the moisture on your windows, especially on cold days, it could mean that your window glazing is becoming ineffective. Damaged seals can cause moisture to slip between a dual-pane glass and form condensation. When this happens, replace them with energy-efficient windows to avoid this problem.

    A Musty Smell

A wrongly installed window is likely to allow water into the house. This can lead to the growth of mold, which is harmful to your health. At times, you may not see the mold as it is growing inside the walls. However, a moldy or musty smell is an indication that something is wrong. Denver windows advise that in such situations, you should get a professional to assess the situation. However, be ready to install a new window to avoid putting your health at risk.

    Hearing Outside Noise

If you can hear excessive noise like a car horn or a dog barking, it is probably time to replace the windows. The extra noise you are hearing is because your windows are no longer providing sufficient insulation. A new one will help reduce the noise, resulting in a more relaxing and enjoyable environment.

    Increase in Energy Bills

As your windows age, cracks may start appearing between frames. Those tiny cracks and holes let in cold air into the house, increasing your energy bills each month. If you want to confirm a leak through your windows, take a gaslighter and hold it close to the window panes. If the flame flickers, it is a sign cold air is getting inside. This means it is time for you to shop for a new window.

    Decaying Window Frames

Even if you purchased high-quality windows, extreme weather and aging would still get to them. In case of a storm, your window may suffer significant damage and repair will not be enough. Inspect your windows for rotting, cracks, chipping, broken glass, mold, and decay. If you notice any of this damage, replace the window to enhance your home’s curb appeal.

A home is a significant investment, and you have to ensure it looks good all the time. When you notice the above signs, contact a professional to come and replace the window.
