As it is increasingly used to improve the quality of people’s daily lives, many people begin to wonder if CBD oil can do the same for dogs and cats. Therefore, it is not surprising that many new CBD pet products have appeared on the market.

However, as with similar products intended for humans, it is useful to know the potential benefits of providing cbd for dogs, which products to choose, and how to apply them to your pet, because knowing all this information will help you use these products.

    In this article:

    • Various benefits of CBD oil for cats and dogs?
    • What CBD products to choose for your pets?
    • How to apply CBD oil for dogs and cats?

What are the benefits of CBD oil for cats and dogs?

This is the most important question when it comes to using CBD oil for cats and dogs, but, unfortunately, no one can give a definite answer to it – at least not yet. The reason for this is obvious – society has only recently begun to overcome the stigma associated with cannabis, finally, taking seriously the potential medical benefits of cannabidiol. Thus, many qualitative studies have not yet been conducted on its effects. In fact, there is even less research on the effects of CBD on animals than studies on human exposure. However, the first studies conducted have yielded promising results, and new ones are currently underway that should help us learn more.

In addition to this, there is also unconfirmed evidence of the effect of CBD oil for treating various diseases in dogs and cats, as numerous pet parents have decided to carefully test it on their furry friends. If you read evidence on this topic in various forums and blogs, the answer will be mostly positive.

What CBD products to choose for your pets?

With a wide selection of CBD products to choose from – for both animals and humans – it’s pretty hard to decide which one will be the best for your pet. So, let’s take a look at a few things to keep in mind when choosing CBD oil for your cat or dog.

First of all, pay close attention to the ingredients listed on the package and find out if all the ingredients are safe for your pet. While cannabidiol itself is considered safe for dogs and cats, CBD oil may contain some other ingredients that are completely safe for human consumption but toxic to dogs or cats (we all know famous examples of chocolate and onions, but there are others). In fact, it is highly recommended that you choose a product specifically designed for your pet, because oil created for humans usually contains a much higher concentration of cannabidiol, which makes it difficult to determine the dosage. And whether it’s made for people or animals, if the CBD product does not have a complete list of ingredients, don’t buy it at all,

It is also important to mention that you should never give your pet anything containing THC, as it is considered toxic to animals. Of course, this is unlikely to happen anyway, because most CBD products do not contain THC, but it is good to remember if in doubt.

How to apply CBD oil for dogs and cats?

CBD oil is administered to dogs and cats more or less in the same way that it is administered to humans orally. When it comes to the dosage of CBD oil for cats and dogs, no one can give the right answer, because – again – there are not enough completed studies on this topic to say for sure. However, the usual recommended dose for animals is from 0.05 to 0.5 mg CBD per kg body weight. Just make sure you start with lower doses and then gradually increase them if necessary. And, if you bought oil specifically designed for cats or dogs, you can follow the dosage instructions that came with the product. It should also be added that it would probably be nice to discuss this with your veterinarian, especially if your pet is receiving any medications at the same time.

However, if you are looking for ways to improve your pet’s quality of life, and you are considering CBD oil for this, it is definitely worth a try.
